2 terrorists, 1 army trooper killed in Maguing firefight: AFP

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur – Two terrorists and an Army troop were killed in the gunfight in the hinterlands of Maguing, Lanao del Sur, between troops of the Army’s 103rd “Haribon” Brigade and elements of the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) on Tuesday morning in Brgy. Ilalag, Maguing, Lanao del Sur, according to initial reports of the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division.

“The Army troops encountered more or less 60 armed DI-MG members at 7:50 a.m., following the airstrike operations conducted at 2 a.m. at the identified lair of the terrorists led by Abu Zacharia and DI-Hassan Group Maguindanao,” Tabak Division said.

The two groups reportedly joined in the area for training and planning sabotage operations.

Residents told Philippine Muslim Today (PMT) that the AFP has been launching areal strikes and artillery bombings to far hinterland villages of Maguing since 2:00 Tuesday morning.

In a statement, 103rd Brigade said the airstrikes are done to protect from enemy anti-personnel mines Army troops and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel conducting the law enforcement in the hinterlands of Maguing.

It is also reported some residents in nearby barangays are evacuating as the military are conducting clearing and pursuit operations. (PMT)
