A South African man has reached Makkah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on foot for three years to perform Hajj, media reports said.

The Islamic Information, an online news portal, said three years after Saheed, a Cape town resident, set off from his home country for Islam’s holiest place, he made a record after reaching Makkah on foot.

The report said the man traveled through several African and European countries before reaching his destination.

Saheed started his journey on August 30, 2018, walking through Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, and Palestine, where the COVID-19 border lockdown forced him to halt. He stayed in Palestine for over a year.

As a result of the reopened border, the man continued walking through Jordan, Medina, and Mecca.

Saheed said he would travel back by foot after the Hajj.

Shortly after arriving in Saudi Arabia, he spoke to reporters about his experience.
