The Darul Ifta of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Thursday night announced that the crescent moon was not sighted in the Philippines and declared that Eid’l Fitr will be on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Bangsamoro Grand Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan confirmed the result of the moon sighting through various social media platforms and radio stations, according to a report from the Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO).

BIO said prior to this, BDI dispatched moon sighting teams to several strategic locations equipped with technical knowledge and equipment.

It is expected after the official BARMM announcement that Muslims throughout the Philippines will participate in congregational prayers at designated sites, concluding the month-long observation of Ramadhan.

The Bangsamoro Government Center in Cotabato City will also be available to the public for the celebration.

Meanwhile, after the announcement of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) that it has sighted the crescent moon, many Muslim Filipinos did not follow the autonomous region’s official declaration and instead held the Salatul Eid’l Fitr on Friday morning as enjoined by the Kingdom.

In Marawi City and Lanao del Sur, prominent political families, traditional leaders, and religious figures followed Saudi Arabia ‘s announcement and led the Eidl Fitr celebrations on Friday morning. (With story from Abdullah Matucan/BIO)
