CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The National Economic and Development Authority-X engaged anew representatives of regional line agencies, local government units, and the private sector to look into the regional economic situationer (RES) of Northern Mindanao for the first quarter of 2023.

The roundtable discussion conducted virtually, July 11, aims to get a glimpse and assess the socio-economic performance of the region useful in recalibrating strategies to attain the targets outlined in the Northern Mindanao Regional Development Plan (NMRDP) 2023-2028.

NEDA-X regional director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño said the quarterly RES does not only discuss the accomplishments of the region but also the factors that led to the achievements or those that hindered the attainment of the targets.

“Very important ang QRES because it allows us to recalibrate our actions, it allows us to rethink some of our strategies so that our commitments are attained,” she said.

Cariño also highlighted the importance of the data gathered from the RES to planners, government agencies, and private organizations, particularly in crafting their plans.

“That is why ang atong data nga e produce is really data nga updated and of course accurate, kay ang atong mga users, they always want an accurate and updated data para magamit sa ilang tagsa-tagsa nga mga panginahanglanon sa ilang opisina, whether in the public or private sector,” she emphasized.

Performance in the areas of agriculture such as palay, corn, coconut, major crops, livestock and poultry, fish and forest production, as well as non-agriculture including investments, tourism, labor and employment, tax and customs collections, peace and security, air and sea traffic, telecommunication, electrification, and irrigation, were among indicators reviewed and validated.

Challenges affecting the regional economy were also tackled during the roundtable discussion.

Once finalized, the QRES report will be disseminated to the public. (APB/PIA-10)
