NEDA, Presidential Adviser on Muslim Affairs Explore Economic Opportunities with Gulf Countries

| Strategic Collaboration to Enhance Accurate Muslim Population Data and Foster Economic Growth in Mindanao

MANILA — The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) convened a pivotal meeting today at its headquarters, led by Secretary Dr. Arsenio M. Balisacan and the Presidential Adviser on Muslim Affairs, Almarim Centi Tillah. The discussion focused on leveraging business opportunities and tapping into the expertise and networks of Muslim professionals, particularly in relation to rich-oil countries in the Gulf and Middle East.

Presidential Adviser Tillah outlined a comprehensive plan to assist the National Statistics Agency in accurately counting the Muslim population in the Philippines. This initiative involves reaching remote areas with the support of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Muslim Affairs. “We must start from home, particularly in the food basket areas of Mindanao, which present vast opportunities ranging from seaweeds to various fruits that are in high demand globally,” Tillah emphasized.

The meeting underscored the significant interest from Gulf and Middle Eastern countries in investing and contributing to the development of the Philippines. The need for the right contacts, especially those with established rapport and language skills, was highlighted as crucial for successful engagements. It was also confirmed that having a Muslim leader in business and economic dialogues is essential during visits to these countries.

Additionally, the potential for utilizing Arabic graduates from the Middle East in various sectors, including Halal industries, Shariah-compliant banking, and tourism, was raised. This strategic collaboration aims to harness the skills of these graduates to further economic development and cultural integration.

This meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing socioeconomic policies and programs, with a strong focus on fostering international partnerships and inclusive growth.
