COTABATO CITY - The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, the Philippine Army’s top-ranking field unit, has “reinforced its dedication” to the observance of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) under its new leadership, according to a press statement from the Division’s Public Affairs Office (DPAO).
6ID officers and personnel led by their newly installed commander Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete made the symbolic reaffirmation during a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, August 5 at the 6ID headquarters ground, Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.

The ceremony pursued the theme: “75 Taong Paninindigan sa IHL” Kamalayan, Kalinga, Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran: Kalakasan ng IHL sa Bagong Pilipinas,” underscoring the significance of maintaining humanitarian principles during armed conflict, highlighting the 6ID’s role not only as defenders of the nation but also as protectors of human rights,
Major June Mark P. Matugas, DPAO chief, said in a press release.
At the sidelight of the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Nafarrete awarded Captain John Gerald Agdalpen and Sergeant Arnel Blanco Bronze Cross Medals, and Sergeant Ernane Encabo a Military Merit Medal for their exemplary service and dedication, Matugas said.
Gen. Nafarrete, who also heads the Joint Task Force Central, emphasized the importance of recognizing the troops who have demonstrated unparalleled dedication and heroism in administrative and focused military operations while adhering to the highest standard for human dignity, Matugas said.
“The recognition of their valiant deeds serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of upholding the principles of humanity in all our efforts, even in the most challenging circumstances,” the DPAO quoted Gen. Nafarrete as saying. (AGM)
